About Codeshot

Codeshot turns code and everything around it into images worth sharing — and it does it without an account, a watermark, or a single byte leaving your browser.

What Codeshot is

Codeshot is a free, browser-based tool for creating beautiful images of code, terminal sessions, API responses, logs, database schemas, diffs, test results and more. Each generator is tuned for one kind of content, so a stack trace looks like a stack trace and a git diff looks like a diff — not a generic code block.

It is built for developers, technical writers, educators and content creators who want their work to look as considered as it reads, whether that is a snippet on social media, a command in a tutorial, or a JSON payload in API documentation.

Why we built it

Sharing code as a raw screenshot is fiddly: you crop, you fight with light and dark mode, and the result rarely matches your brand. Existing tools cover code snippets well, but developers share far more than snippets. Codeshot extends the idea to the whole developer workflow and keeps everything fast, private and free.

How it works

You paste your content, pick a theme, backdrop and font, and edit directly on the live canvas. When it looks right, you export a retina PNG or a scalable SVG, or copy the image straight to your clipboard. Highlighting, rendering and export all happen locally in your browser — nothing you paste is uploaded to a server.

Our principles

  • Free and open access. No account, no watermark, no export limits.
  • Private by design. Your content never leaves your device.
  • Fast. Self-hosted fonts and statically rendered pages keep it instant.
  • Focused. A dedicated tool for each kind of content, not one box for everything.
